Story of the Day
Kudos to journalist Michael Isikoff and Newsweek for this story. (The accompanying photo couldn't be more apt.) If news of the Pentagon also unlawfully spying on U.S. citizens picks up as much steam as the NSA story, how many days before Rummy calls a press conference and tells us that in the post-9/11 world the Pentagon must do everything it can to protect us from the terrorists? I'll stand on one foot until then:
The Other Big Brother, by Michael Isikoff
Newsweek
I agree w/ you, Mr./Ms. Bloodhound, that this is a good piece of journalism and in my mind, more horrible evidence that this country has embarked on a Titanic sized cruise into the fetid waters of fascism, but my real agita is caused by (to paraphrase Maureen Dowd) the "incompetent impotent" Democrats who may not have the numbers to demand instead of ask for hearings about the Pentagon and NSA spying, but who could bring the whole Congress to a halt to let the Republicans know that they the Dems mean business. Not like when Gingrich threw a tantrum and closed down shop because he had to sit in the back of Air Force One when returning w/ Bill Clinton from Rabin's funeral. No, this crisis in our country today requires an issuing of a joint statement from Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi that says clearly George Walker Bush and Dick Cheney knowingly and willfully have and continue to break laws of the land and have repeatedly violated the Constitution and until impeachment hearings are held by the House Judiciary Committee, the Dems will not participate in any business before either chamber of Congress. The Dems must acquire a backbone because as Dr. King and others during the civil rights era used to say, "If you don't stand for something, you'll stand for anything." Watching the Dems behavior lately, I won't be holding my breath.
